A German road trip! Part three

The Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel

Day three of our trip takes us to Kassel.  Megan actually found this place on Pinterest when a friend of hers posted it to a board.  After googling it and learning it was only two hours from Heidelberg, we added it to the itinerary.  Good thing too!  It is one of the most amazing places I’ve seen in Germany so far.
Just to give you a bit of info on the bergpark, it’s 590 acres of beautiful landscaping, statues and museums, built on a mountain slope, and it took 150 years to finish!  It was also just named one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites this past June. If you want to learn more about it, by all means, do! The main attraction, or center piece is the huge monument with a giant copper statue of  Hercules at the top just chillin’ out like it’s no big deal.  Your eye is drawn to this monument no mater where you are in the park.  It sits at the highest point in the park and it is here that our journey began.

As we continued down the mountain we came across a water fall and a herd a sheep!

After that, an AWESOME castle!

We climbed trees and rocky waterfalls and meandered down winding paths.  It was pretty much a fairy land.

We hiked around this amazing park for nearly four hours, taking pictures of everything!  Down was easy. Up was, well… up.  But we packed a picnic and rewarded our ambitious photo journey with yummy food on a blanket in the sun.  The two of us even fell asleep, the sun felt so good!

We found a Hercules seckt and had to add that to our picnic.  You can also see Megan throwing and catching blueberries in her mouth. You can tell how tasty they are by the look in her eye.

Despite all the times we got lost, our little road trip was fantastic!  It morphed from an idea to do a day trip to Heidelberg, into this amazing four day adventure!  And to top it all off neither of us broke the bank.  The two of us are scheming already over our next trip, but for now plans are being made for this thing called Oktoberfest, you may have heard of it, it’s kind of a big deal.
Untill next time my friends, Tschüs!
